jāʾa ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam dhāta yawmin wa-l-bishru fī wajhihi, fa-qāla: «ʾinnahu jāʾanī jibrīlu, fa-qāla: ʾinna rabbaka yaqūlu: ʾamā yurḍīka yā muḥammadu ʾannahu lā yuṣallī ʿalayka ʾaḥadun min ʾummatika ʾillā ṣallaytu ʿalayhi ʿashran? wa-lā yusallimu ʿalayka ʾaḥadun min ʾummatika ʾillā sallamtu ʿalayhi ʿashran?»
He (peace and blessings be upon him) came one day with gladness on his face and said, “Gabriel came to me and said, ‘Your Lord says: Does it not please you, Muhammad, that whenever anyone from your community invokes one blessing upon you, I bless that person ten times; and whenever anyone from your community sends one greeting of peace upon you, I grant that person peace ten times?’”

«man ṣallā ʿalayya wāḥidatan ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi ʿashra ṣalawātin, wa-ḥuṭṭat ʿanhu ʿashru khaṭīʾātin, wa-rufiʿat lahu ʿashru darajātin» [س، حب، مس، ر، ط], wa-kutiba lahu bihā ʿashru ḥasanātin [س، ط].

Whoever invokes one blessing upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah and His angels will bless that person seventy times [أ].
wa-kayfa al-ṣalātu wa-l-salāmu ʿalayhi ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam taqaddama.
The manner of invoking blessings and peace upon him (peace and blessings be upon him) was given earlier.

ʿAli, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Every supplication is veiled until blessings are invoked upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and the family of Muhammad [طس].
wa-ʿan ʿumara raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu: ʾinna al-duʿāʾa mawqūfun bayna al-samāʾi wa-l-ʾarḍi, lā yaṣʿadu minhu shayʾun ḥattā tuṣalliya ʿalā nabiyyika [ت].
ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Supplication remains suspended between heaven and earth; none of it ascends until you invoke blessings upon your Prophet [ت].
wa-qāla al-shaykhu ʾabū sulaymāna al-dārāniyyu raḥmatu Allāhi ʿalayhi: ʾidhā saʾalta Allāha ḥājatan fa-ibdaʾhu bi-l-ṣalāti ʿalā al-nabiyyi ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam, thumma udʿu bimā shiʾta, thumma ikhtim bi-l-ṣalāti ʿalayhi ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam, fa-ʾinna Allāha subḥānahu bikaramihi yaqbalu al-ṣalātayni, wa-huwa ʾakramu min ʾan yadaʿa mā baynahumā.
Shaykh Abu Sulayman al-Darani, may Allah have mercy on him, said: When you ask Allah for something, begin by invoking blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then pray for whatever you wish, and conclude by invoking blessings upon him (peace and blessings be upon him). In His generosity, Allah, Glorified is He, accepts the two invocations of blessing, and He is too generous to leave unanswered what lies between them.

O Allah, by the standing he has with You, lift from Your creation the affliction that has befallen them, and do not place them under the power of anyone who will not show them mercy. Something has descended upon them that none but You can lift and none besides You can repel. O Allah, grant us relief, Generous One, Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
qāla muʾallifuhu raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu wa-mattaʿanā wa-sāʾira al-muslimīna biṭūli ḥayātihi:
The author, may Allah be pleased with him and grant him—and all Muslims—the benefit of a long life, said:

I completed the arrangement of this “Impregnable Fortress from the Words of the Master of the Messengers” on Sunday after noon, the twenty-second of the sacred month of Dhu al-Hijjah,

in the year 791 AH, at the school I established at the top of ʿAqabat al-Kattan, within the well-protected city of Damascus. May Allah Most High guard it and all Muslim lands from calamities.
hādhā wa-jamīʿu ʾabwābi dimashqa mughlaqatun, bal mushayyadatun bi-l-ʾaḥjāri, wa-l-khalāʾiqu yastaghīthūna ʿalā al-ʾaswāri, wa-l-nāsu fī jahdin ʿaẓīmin mina al-ḥiṣāri, wa-l-miyāhu maqṭūʿatun, wa-l-ʾaydī ʾilā Allāhi taʿālā bi-l-taḍarruʿi marfūʿatun,
At this time, every gate of Damascus is closed—indeed, barricaded with stones. People are crying out for help upon the walls, and all are suffering severely under the siege. The water has been cut off, while hands are raised to Allah Most High in humble pleading.
wa-qad ʾaḥraqa ẓawāhira al-baladi, wa-nahaba ʾaktharahu, wa-kullu ʾaḥadin khāʾifun ʿalā nafsihi wa-mālihi wa-ʾahlihi, wajilun min dhunūbihi, wa-sūʾi ʾaʿmālihi, wa-qad taḥaṣṣana bimā yaqdiru ʿalayhi, fa-jaʿaltu hādhā ḥiṣnī, wa-tawakkaltu ʿalā Allāhi, wa-huwa ḥasbī wa-niʿma al-wakīlu.
The enemy has burned the city's outskirts and plundered most of the surrounding area. Everyone fears for their life, property, and family, and trembles because of their sins and bad deeds. Each person has fortified themselves as best they can. I have therefore made this my fortress and put my trust in Allah. He is sufficient for me, and He is the best One to entrust with all affairs.
wa-qad ʾajaztu ʾawlādī: ʾabā al-fatḥi muḥammadan, wa-ʾabā bakrin ʾaḥmada wa-ʾabā al-qāsimi ʿaliyyan, wa-ʾabā al-khayri muḥammadan, wa-fāṭimata, wa-ʿāʾishata, wa-salmā, wa-khadījata, riwāyatahu ʿannī, maʿa jamīʿi mā yajūzu lī riwāyatuhu, wa-ka-dhālika ʾajaztu ʾahla ʿaṣrī.
I have authorized my children—Abu al-Fath Muhammad, Abu Bakr Ahmad, Abu al-Qasim ʿAli, Abu al-Khayr Muhammad, Fatimah, ʿA'ishah, Salma, and Khadijah—to transmit it from me, together with everything else I am permitted to transmit. I have likewise authorized all my contemporaries.
wa-l-ḥamdu li-llāhi ʾawwalan wa-ʾākhiran, wa-ṣalātuhu ʿalā sayyidi al-khalqi muḥammadin, wa-ʾālihi wa-ṣaḥbihi ʾajmaʿīna.
All praise is due to Allah at the beginning and at the end. May His blessings be upon the master of creation, Muhammad, and upon all his family and Companions.
