Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa l-ḥayyu l-qayyūmu,

Allah—there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all.

Lahu mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-arḍi,

To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth.

مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ،

Man dhā lladhī yashfaʿu ʿindahu illā bi-idhnihi,

Who can intercede with Him except by His permission?

يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ،

Yaʿlamu mā bayna aydīhim wa-mā khalfahum,

He knows all that lies before them and all that lies behind them.

وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ،

Wa-lā yuḥīṭūna bi-shayʾin min ʿilmihi illā bi-mā shāʾa,

To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth.

وَإِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ،

Whether you reveal what is within you or conceal it,

يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللَّهُ،

Allah will call you to account for it.

لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا،

Lā yukallifu llāhu nafsan illā wusʿahā,

Allah does not burden any soul beyond its capacity.

لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ،

Lahā mā kasabat wa-ʿalayhā mā ktasabat,

It receives the good it has earned and bears the consequences of the wrong it has done.

رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا،

Rabbanā lā tuʾākhidhnā in nasīnā aw akhṭaʾnā,

“Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake.

رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا،

Rabbanā wa-lā taḥmil ʿalaynā iṣran,

Our Lord, do not lay a heavy burden upon us,

كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا،

Kamā ḥamaltahu ʿalā lladhīna min qablinā,

as You laid upon those before us.

رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ،

Rabbanā wa-lā tuḥammilnā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bihi,

Our Lord, do not burden us with what we have no strength to bear.

وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا،

Wa-ʿfu ʿannā wa-ghfir lanā wa-rḥamnā,

Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us.

أَنْتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ. ﴿٢٨٦﴾

Reading and translation notes

Every Arabic line is followed by its italicized transliteration and then its English translation. A repetition count applies to the complete formula ending at that count, even when the formula spans several groups of lines. The short surahs have their own recitation instructions. Each closing Fātiḥah cue refers to the complete opening surah.

The Arabic has been fully vocalized for connected reading, including grammatical endings. Normal pause forms apply when stopping. Long vowels and silent letters follow ordinary Arabic spelling; the Qur’anic passages use readable imlāʾī spelling rather than a facsimile of muṣḥaf orthography. Line divisions and punctuation are reading aids. The source’s occasional shifts between “his ancestors” and “their descendants” have been retained.

This is a fresh English translation of the Arabic, including the Qur’anic passages. “Allah” is retained throughout; al-Raḥmān and al-Raḥīm are rendered “the All-Merciful” and “the Ever-Merciful.” Kursī is translated “Seat,” with the Arabic retained because its interpretation is discussed in Qur’anic commentary. Laṭīf, rendered “Most Gentle,” also conveys subtle awareness and care.

In the closing prayers, quṭb is rendered “spiritual axis,” ghawth as “a source of aid,” asrār as “spiritual mysteries,” and futūḥ as “spiritual openings.” Al-Faqīh al-Muqaddam means “the foremost jurist”; al-Ḥabīb is the honorific “the beloved.” The elliptical “O Allah, grant it to us” is read in light of the following request for a good end to life. These are translation choices, not additions to the Arabic.

Source and scope

The complete Arabic sequence follows Khulāṣat al-Madad al-Nabawī, compiled by Habib Umar bin Muhammad bin Hafiz: printed pp. 110–119 (PDF pp. 106–115). It includes Qur’an 2:284, fifty repetitions of the tahlīl, the five Fātiḥah dedications printed in that edition, and the explicitly marked post-Ratib additions. The later passage mentioning “either of the two Ratibs” is reproduced as printed.

The two supplied PDFs were used for comparison. The expanded Fātiḥah conclusion includes later additions, as explained by Habib Umar in the Muwasala answer linked below; not every concluding dedication is attributed here to Imam al-Haddad. The English wording in this document is an independent translation, not an official translation issued by the source publisher.

الْوِرْدُ اللَّطِيفُ

The Complete Original Recension

Arabic Text Transliteration and English Translation

Imam ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAlawī al Ḥaddād

This reader’s edition presents the full 33 dhikr recension with its original hundredfold conclusion. It also records the shortened ending in the current official 1445 AH Al Khulasah as a separate alternative so the two transmitted forms remain distinct.

Text established from a family collated edition and checked against the current official publication

Editorial Basis

No single publication was found that is both the current institutional printing and the full historical recension. The controlling complete witness is the 1422 AH 2001 family collated edition prepared with hadith documentation by the Imam’s descendant Abd Allah ibn Mahfuz al Haddad. Its numbered text ends after Dhikr 33 and states that the hundredfold form is more complete and preferable. The official 1445 AH Al Khulasah is the strongest current institutional witness, but it uses the shorter ending.

Role

Finding

Dār al Imām al Ghazālī 2001

Main Arabic control

The family collated 33 dhikr text on pages 13 to 31 gives the full hundredfold ending and marks the end of the Wird explicitly.

Al Khulāṣah 1445 AH

Current official witness

The official Habib Umar publication gives the widely recited shortened and augmented form on pages 67 to 75.

Official English Al Khulāṣah 2013

Transliteration and translation

Its copyright page expressly permits downloading publishing and printing. The Latin text was checked against the supplied 2012 and 2018 editions.

Scope and reuse  This document reproduces the public domain litany itself. It does not reproduce the modern preface hadith notes or commentary from the 2001 volume. The transliteration and English are adapted from the official English Al Khulasah whose copyright page allows downloading publishing and printing. Qurʾanic passages were normalized to readable Unicode Arabic and checked visually against the Arabic witnesses.

How to Use This Edition

The main body follows the morning wording. Repetition instructions sit beneath the Arabic and are not part of the recited formula. For the evening change morning to evening resurrection to return and day to night with the corresponding feminine pronouns. A complete list appears after Dhikr 33.

The English conveys meaning and is not a substitute for the Arabic text. Transliteration is provided as a reading aid. Readers who are learning pronunciation should confirm it with a qualified teacher.

The Complete Original Recension

The numbering and sequence below follow the 2001 family collated witness on pages 13 to 31. Its wording and repetition counts were checked against rendered page images rather than accepted from OCR alone.

Everything in the Heavens and the earth glorify Him. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

Current Official Shortened Ending

The current official 1445 AH Al Khulasah replaces the original Dhikr 30 through Dhikr 33 with the sequence below. This is a transmitted alternative and should not be merged with the hundredfold conclusion in the main text.

The 2001 family collated edition also prints a shortened substitute after its explicit end marker. That earlier substitute stops after the declaration of divine unity and does not contain the final salutation printed in the 1445 current form.
