Awrad of Khwaja Bahauddin Naqshband

The Awrād al-Bahāʾiyya, also called the Awrād al-Qudsiyya, is a litany attributed to Bahāʾ al-Dīn Naqshband. This edition places each vocalized Arabic passage above its Latin-script transliteration and a new English rendering. The work here is Arabic throughout; it contains no Persian lines.

The 138 passage numbers are editorial. The text stops at the prayer that closes the manuscript described by the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs. The opening in this reading version includes al-Qayyūm, which is absent from that catalogue’s short opening quotation.

Editorial choices

The Arabic follows a fully marked online reading version, with small corrections to spacing, obvious copying errors, and selected Qur’anic spellings. At passage 104, a later reference to ‘students of the Nur’ has been removed; an earlier independent Arabic copy reads simply ‘make every difficulty easy for us and our parents.’ The online version’s additional prayers beyond the catalogued ending are not included.

The transliteration uses ā, ī, ū for long vowels, ʿ for ʿayn, ʾ for hamza, and distinctive letters such as ḥ, ṣ, ḍ, ṭ, and ẓ. It reflects the written vowels and is not a tajwīd guide. A few rare expressions and variant words remain uncertain; the English favors a readable contextual sense. This is a reading edition, not a line-by-line collation of all surviving witnesses.

God: there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. Everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Him. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what lies before them and behind them, while they grasp nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth; guarding them does not weary Him. He is the Most High, the Magnificent.

Allāhumma taqabbal tawbatanā; wāghsil ḥawbatanā; wasaddid maqāwilanā; wāslul sakhīmata ṣudūrina; waadhhibi al-dhaḥla wa al-rāna wa al-iḥnata min qulūbinā

O God, accept our repentance, wash away our sins, make our words true, remove rancor from our breasts, and clear resentment, the stain upon the heart, and enmity from our hearts.

Allāhumma innā naʿūdhubika min judāʿi al-fujʾati wamin ḥarqi al-mānūsati

O God, we seek refuge in You from sudden calamity and from destructive fire.

wamina al-ilḥādi wa al-ghirrati wamina al-jammi wa al-ʿanati wamina al-umūri al-muṭammirāti

And from deviation and heedlessness, excess and hardship, and ruinous events.

O God, grant us a share of reverent fear of You that will stand between us and disobedience; a share of obedience that will bring us into the holy presence; and a certainty that will lighten the trials of this world and the next.

Gather us among the best of Your servants. Let us enjoy our hearing, sight, and strength for as long as You keep us alive, and let these gifts remain with us to the end. Vindicate us against those who wrong us, and help us against those who oppose us. Forgive our errors, remove our afflictions, heal our sick, illumine our hearts, fulfill our needs, and have mercy on our children. Do not make this fleeting world our greatest concern or the limit of our knowledge. Do not let our calamity strike our religion or our worldly lives, and do not put over us, because of our sins, anyone who shows us no mercy. Provide for us, for You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.

O God, we ask You for mercy from Your presence: with it calm our fear, bring our scattered affairs together, unite us, heal our sick, purify our deeds and our time, and inspire us to what is right.

O God, by Your self-sufficiency, Your oneness and uniqueness, Your manifest might and all-embracing mercy, we ask You to place light in our hearing, light in our eyes, light in our graves, light in our hearts, light in our senses, light in our souls, and light before us.

Allāhumma zidnā ʿilman wanūran waḥilman wātinā niʿmatan ẓāhiratan waniʿmatan bāṭinatan

O God, increase us in knowledge, light, and forbearance, and give us blessings both outward and inward.

God is sufficient for our faith; God is sufficient for our worldly life; the Generous God is sufficient for all that worries us; the Forbearing, Strong God is sufficient against those who transgress against us; and the Mighty God is sufficient against those who plot harm.

The Merciful God is sufficient at death; the Compassionate God is sufficient when we are questioned in the grave; the Generous God is sufficient at the reckoning; the Gentle God is sufficient at the weighing; the Wise God is sufficient at the threshold of Paradise and the Fire; and the All-Powerful God is sufficient at the Bridge.

ḥasbiya Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa ʿalayhi tawakkaltu wahuwa rabbu al-ʿarshi al-ʿaẓīmi

God is sufficient for me. There is no god but Him. I put my trust in Him, Lord of the mighty Throne.

Welcome, welcome to the morning and the new day; welcome to this time and this happy hour, to the traveler and the witness. Record for us what we say.

bismi Allāhi al-ḥamīdi al-majīdi al-rafīʿi al-wadūdi al-muḥīṭi al-faʿʿāli fī khalqihi limā yurīdu

In the name of God, the Praiseworthy, the Glorious, the Exalted, the Loving, the All-Encompassing, who does whatever He wills among His creatures.

wahuwa aqrabu ilayhi min ḥabli al-warīdi

He is nearer to a person than the jugular vein.

We enter the morning believing in God, certain of meeting Him, acknowledging His proof, rejecting any other claim to divinity, and relying on Him.

nushhidu Allāha wanushhidu malāʾikatahu wakutubahu waanbiyāʾahu waḥamalata ʿarshihi biannahu huwa Allāhu alladhī lā ilāha illā huwa waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu

We call God, His angels, His books, His prophets, and the bearers of His Throne as witnesses that He alone is God: there is no god but Him, and He has no partner.

wanashhadu anna muḥammadan ʿabduhu warasūluhu; waanna al-jannata ḥaqqun; wa al-nāra ḥaqqun; waanna al-ḥawḍa ḥaqqun; waanna al-shafāʿata ḥaqqun; waanna munkaran wanakīran ḥaqqun; wawaʿdaka ḥaqqun; waanna al-sāʿata ātiyatun lā rayba fīhā; waanna Allāha yabʿathu man fī al-qubūri; ʿalā dhālika naḥyā waʿalayhi namūtu waʿalayhi nubʿathu ghadan wala narā ʿadhāban in shāʾa Allāhu taʿālā

We testify that Muhammad is His servant and messenger; that Paradise, the Fire, the Pool, intercession, and the questioning angels Munkar and Nakīr are real; that Your promise is true; and that the Hour will come without doubt. God will raise those in the graves. In this faith we live, die, and will be raised tomorrow; and, God willing, we will not suffer punishment.

Allāhumma innanā ẓalamnā anfusanā fāghfirlanā awzāranā al-kabāʾira wa al-lamama fainnahu lā yaghfiruhumā illā anta; wāhdina liʾaḥsani al-akhlaqi fainnahu lā yahdī liʾaḥsanihā illā anta

O God, we have wronged ourselves. Forgive our burdens of grave and lesser sins, for none forgives them but You. Guide us to the finest character, for none guides to it but You.

labbayka wasaʿdayka; wa al-khayru kulluhu biyadayka nastaghfiruka wanatūbu ilayka; āmannā Allāhumma bimā arsalta min rasūlin; wa āmannā Allāhumma bimā anzalta min kitābin faṣaddaqnā

Here we are at Your service, gladly. All good is in Your hands. We ask Your forgiveness and turn to You. O God, we believe in every messenger You sent and every book You revealed, and we affirm them.

Allāhumma amlaʾ awjuhanā minka ḥayāʾan waqulūbanā minka ḥubūran

O God, fill our faces with reverent modesty before You and our hearts with joy from You.

Allāhumma ajʿalnā luhūman waẓalifan wala tajʿalnā ḍanīnan waʿamīnan wanamīman wanaffājan wadāḥisan

O God, make us generous and self-restrained; do not make us miserly, blind to truth, tale-bearers, boastful, or sowers of discord.

Allāhumma innā naʿūdhubika mina al-habramati wa al-jāwati wamina al-ʿutuwwi wa al-khaṭrabati wa al-khaylūlati wa al-fayhaji wa al-ratʿi wa al-ʿatli wa al-ramāʾi wa al-fitnati al-dahmāʾi wa al-maʿīshati al-ḍankāʾi

O God, we seek refuge in You from gluttony, harshness, obstinacy, empty talk, vanity, heedless indulgence, brutality, showing off, dark turmoil, and a constricted livelihood.

Allāhumma ajʿal awwala yawminā hadhā ṣalāḥan; waawsaṭahu falāḥan; wākhirahu najāḥan; wākhtim lanā bi-al-saʿādati wa al-shahādati wa al-tawbati wa al-maghfirati wa al-iymāni

O God, make the beginning of this day upright, its middle fruitful, and its end successful; grant us a final state of happiness, faithful witness, repentance, forgiveness, and faith.

Allāhumma ajʿal awwalahu raḥmatan waawsaṭahu zahādatan wākhirahu takrimatan

O God, make its beginning mercy, its middle detachment from what passes away, and its end an honor from You.

Allāhumma arzuqnā mina al-ʿayshi arghadahu; wamina al-ʿumri asʿadahu; wamina al-rizqi awsaʿahu

O God, grant us the most easeful life, the happiest years, and the widest provision.

Allāhumma aʿfu ʿanna biʿafwika; wāḥlum ʿalaynā bifaḍlika; subḥānaka Allāhumma wabiḥamdika lā uḥṣī thanāʾan ʿalayka; anta kamā athnayta ʿalā nafsika; ʿazza jāruka wajalla thanāʾuka; wa-lā yuhzamu junduka; walā yukhlafu waʿduka; walā ilāha ghayruka

O God, pardon us with Your pardon and deal gently with us through Your grace. Glory and praise be to You, O God. I cannot number all the praise You deserve; You are as You have praised Yourself. Your protection is mighty and Your praise is sublime. Your host cannot be defeated, Your promise cannot be broken, and there is no god but You.

subḥānaka mā ʿabadnāka ḥaqqa ʿibādatika yā maʿbūdu

Glory be to You. We have not worshiped You as You deserve to be worshiped, O One who is worshiped.

subḥānaka mā ʿarafnāka ḥaqqa maʿrifatika yā maʿrūfu

Glory be to You. We have not known You as You deserve to be known, O One who is known.

subḥānaka mā dhakarnāka ḥaqqa dhikrika yā madhkūru

Glory be to You. We have not remembered You as You deserve to be remembered, O One who is remembered.

subḥānaka mā shakarnāka ḥaqqa shukrika yā mashkūru

Glory be to You. We have not thanked You as You deserve to be thanked, O One to whom thanks are due.

Allāhumma awziʿnā shukra mā anʿamta bihi ʿalaynā; fainnaka anta Allāhu alladhī artafaʿat ʿan ṣifati al-jibilli ṣifātu qudratika wala ḍidda shahidaka ḥīna faṭarta al-mārūsha wala nidda ḥajazaka ḥīna baraʾta al-ḥawābāti

O God, inspire us to give thanks for the blessings You have given us. You are God, whose attributes of power rise far above those of created beings. No opposing power stood beside You when You formed Your creation, and no rival hindered You when You brought it forth.

Allāhumma innā naʿwudhu bika min jaḥmatin lā tadmaʿu; wamin janānin lā yafzaʿu; wamin qalbin lā yakhshaʿu; wa min duʿāʾin lā yuqbalu; wamin ʿilmin lā yanfaʿu; wamin qawlin lā yusmaʿu; wamin nafsin lā tashbaʿu; wamin ʿawādhi al-māʿūni

O God, we seek refuge in You from an eye that does not weep, a spirit that feels no awe, a heart that does not humble itself, a prayer that is not accepted, knowledge that brings no benefit, words that go unheard, a self that is never satisfied, and the withholding of ordinary help.

O God, help us understand the mysteries of Your Qur’an, clothe us in garments of Your light, immerse us in the symbols of subtle grace, and pour upon us gifts of deep understanding.

O Light of lights, O Gentle One, O Concealer of faults: bless our master Muhammad, lamp of the prophets, light of the saints, radiant moon of the pure, sun of humankind and jinn, and brightness of the two horizons. Raise our being to the sphere of true knowledge, and make our witnessing firm in the station of doing what is beautiful.

O God, O Light, O All-Embracing, O Forgiving One: by Your command the sky was built; by Your power the earth was spread out; and by Your wisdom the towering mountains were set firm.

The two luminaries shine through Your grace. We ask You by Your Name, from which the stars and bright lights shimmer and the clouds resound: grant us a strong shelter and a radiant light, whose lightning nearly takes away sight.

God turns night and day. In that is a lesson for those with insight.

Ṭā Sīn Mīm. We seek refuge in God, the Most High, the Magnificent, from instruments of distraction, slander, forbidden things, deceit, rash ventures, and the schemes of the wicked; from the events of night and day and the evil of the two orders of beings.

O Guardian, guard us. O Protector and Governor; O Most High and Exalted; O One besides whom there is no god, whose reality none but He knows: O God, O Living One, O Sustainer, O Truth, O One, O Unique, O Self-Sufficient, O Ever-Giving, O Opener, O Giver of life, O Bringer of death, O Overwhelming One, O Source of peace.

“Peace,” a word from a merciful Lord.

God will suffice you against them; He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

huwa Allāhu alladhī lā ilāha illā huwa ʿālimu al-ghaybi wa al-shahādati huwa al-raḥmānu al-raḥīmu

He is God; there is no god but Him. He knows the unseen and the seen. He is the All-Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

He is God; there is no god but Him: the Sovereign, the Most Holy, the Source of Peace, the Giver of Security, the Watchful Guardian, the Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme, the Creator, the Originator, the Shaper, the Ever-Forgiving. He begins and restores, is abundant in goodness and counts all things. He provides, constricts and expands, lowers and raises, honors and humbles, sustains, speaks truth, remains forever, shows compassion, brings benefit and harm, brings an end, brings forward and holds back, pardons, needs nothing and enriches, requites, welcomes repentance, hears, knows, and sees all things.

O One who endures without end, O One who abides without passing away, O One who directs all things without an assistant: make every difficulty easy for us and our parents.

O God, none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold. None can turn back what You have decreed or alter what You have judged. Wealth and standing cannot benefit anyone against Your will.

For every terror we have prepared “There is no god but God”; for every abundance, “Praise be to God”; for every ease, “Thanks be to God”; for every wonder, “Glory be to God”; for every hardship, “God is sufficient for me”; for every sin, “I ask God’s forgiveness”; for every sorrow, “What God wills”; for every decree and destiny, “I trust in God”; for every calamity, “We belong to God”; for obedience and disobedience alike, “There is no power or strength except through God”; and for every need, “I seek God’s help.”

O God, O Giver of life, grant us a wholesome life of health and well-being in this world and the next. You have power over everything.

fa-Allāhu khayrun ḥāfiẓan wahuwa arḥamu al-rāḥimīna

God is the best guardian, and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.

wa-Allāhu min warāʾihim muḥīṭun; bal huwa qurʾānun majīdun; fī lawḥin maḥfūẓin

God surrounds them from behind. Rather, this is a glorious Qur’an, preserved on a guarded Tablet.

ḥāfiẓū ʿalā al-ṣalawāti wa al-ṣalāti al-wusṭā waqūmū lillāhi qānitīna

Guard the prayers, especially the middle prayer, and stand before God in devout obedience.

There is no soul without a guardian over it. God is the best guardian. O Guardian, protect us from every evil and harm.

Then, after sorrow, He sent down a sense of safety upon you, a drowsiness that overcame some of you. Others were preoccupied with themselves, thinking false thoughts about God, the thoughts of the time of ignorance. They said, “Do we have any say in this matter?” Say: “The matter belongs entirely to God.” They concealed within themselves what they did not disclose to you. They said, “If we had any say, we would not have been killed here.” Say: “Even if you had stayed in your homes, those whose death had been decreed would have gone out to the places where they were to fall.” This was so that God might test what was in your breasts and purify what was in your hearts. God knows what hearts conceal.

alladhīna yaqūlūna rabbanā innanā āmannā faghfirlanā dhunūbanā waqinā ʿadhāba al-nāri

Those who say, “Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”

al-ṣābirīna wa al-ṣādiqīna wa al-qānitīna wa al-munfiqīna wa al-mustaghfirīna bi-al-asḥāri; shahida Allāhu annahu lā ilāha illā huwa wa al-malāʾikatu wa-ʾulū al-ʿilmi qāʾiman bi-al-qisṭi lā ilāha illā huwa al-ʿazīzu al-ḥakīmu

Those who are patient, truthful, devout, generous, and who seek forgiveness before dawn. God bears witness that there is no god but Him; so do the angels and those endowed with knowledge, upholding justice. There is no god but Him, the Mighty, the Wise.

inna al-dīna ʿinda Allāhi al-islamu

The religion before God is Islam.

fasubḥāna Allāhi ḥīna tumsūna waḥīna tuṣbiḥūna; walahu al-ḥamdu fī al-samāwāti wa al-arḍi waʿashiyyan waḥīna tuẓhirūna

So glorify God when you enter the evening and when you enter the morning. All praise in the heavens and earth belongs to Him, in the late afternoon and at midday.

yukhriju al-ḥayya mina al-mayyiti wayukhriju al-mayyita mina al-ḥayyi wayuḥyī al-arḍa baʿda mawtihā wakadhālika tukhrajūna

He brings the living out of the dead and the dead out of the living; He revives the earth after its death. In the same way, you will be brought forth.

innī tawakkaltu ʿalā Allāhi rabbī warabbikum mā min dābbatin illā huwa ākhidhun bināṣiyatihā inna rabbī ʿalā ṣirāṭin mustaqīmin

I place my trust in God, my Lord and your Lord. There is no living creature that He does not hold by its forelock. My Lord is on a straight path.

wamā lanā allā natawakkala ʿalā Allāhi waqad hadāynā subulanā walanaṣbiranna ʿalā mā ādhaytumūnā waʿalā Allāhi falyatawakkali al-mutawakkilūna

Why should we not place our trust in God when He has guided us on our paths? We will endure the harm you cause us. Let all who trust put their trust in God.

qul lan yuṣībanā illā mā kataba Allāhu lanā huwa mawlyānā waʿalā Allāhi fālyatawakkali al-muʾminūna

Say: nothing will befall us except what God has written for us. He is our Protector; in God let believers place their trust.

wain yamsaska Allāhu biḍurrin fala kāshifa lahu illā huwa wain yuridka bikhayrin fala rādda lifaḍlihi yuṣību bihi man yashāʾu min ʿibādihi wahuwa al-ghafūru al-raḥīmu

If God touches you with harm, no one can remove it but Him. If He intends good for you, none can hold back His grace. He grants it to whichever of His servants He wills. He is the All-Forgiving, the Especially Merciful.

wamā min dābbatin fī al-arḍi illā ʿalā Allāhi rizquhā wayaʿlamu mustaqarrahā wamustawdaʿahā kulun fī kitābin mubīnin

There is no creature on earth whose provision is not with God. He knows its place of rest and its place of lodging. All is in a clear record.

wakaayyin min dābbatin lā taḥmilu rizqahā Allāhu yarzuquhā waiyyākum wahuwa al-samīʿu al-ʿalīmu

How many creatures do not carry their own provision! God provides for them and for you. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

mā yaftaḥi Allāhu lilnnāsi min raḥmatin fala mumsika lahā wamā yumsik fala mursila lahu min baʿdihi wahuwa al-ʿazīzu al-ḥakīmu

Whatever mercy God opens for people, no one can withhold; and whatever He withholds, no one can release after Him. He is the Mighty, the Wise.

walaʾin saʾaltahum man khalaqa al-samāwāti wa al-arḍa layaqūlunna Allāhu qul afaraaytum mā tadʿūna min dūni Allāhi in arādaniya Allāhu biḍurrin hal hunna kāshifātu ḍurrihi aw arādanī biraḥmatin hal hunna mumsikātu raḥmatihi qul ḥasbiya Allāhu ʿalayhi yatawakkalu al-mutawakkilūna

If you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely say, “God.” Say: “Look at what you call upon besides God. If God intends harm for me, can they remove His harm? If He intends mercy for me, can they withhold His mercy?” Say: “God is sufficient for me. Those who trust should place their trust in Him.”

wamā jaʿalahu Allāhu illā bushrā lakum walitaṭmaʾinna qulūbukum bihi wamā al-naṣru illā min ʿindi Allāhi al-ʿazīzi al-ḥakīmi

God made it only as good news for you, so that your hearts might be reassured by it. Help comes only from God, the Mighty, the Wise.

Kāf Hā Yā ʿAyn Ṣād; Ḥā Mīm ʿAyn Sīn Qāf. Suffice us and show us mercy. He is God: the Powerful, the Overwhelming, the Manifest, the Hidden, the Originator, the Gentle, the All-Aware. His word is true, and His is the dominion on the day the trumpet is blown. Knower of the unseen and the seen, He is the Wise, the All-Aware.

O Tender One, O Generous Giver, O Originator of the heavens and the earth, O Living One, O Sustainer, O Possessor of majesty and generosity: by the greatness of Your divinity, we ask You to transform our human dispositions and raise our innermost selves among Your heavenly angels.

Bless him in number equal to all who have passed and all who remain, the fortunate and the unfortunate: a blessing that exceeds every count and encompasses every limit, without boundary, end, term, or interruption. Bless him, his family, companions, and descendants with such a blessing. By Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Khatm-i Khwajagan

Khatm-i Khwājagān

Reading edition of the Naqshbandi silent khatm and vocal dhikr in the Mawlana Sultan booklet (2025). Each recited line appears in Arabic, romanization, and English, in that order. Repeat the printed passage the number of times shown in its heading.

The Arabic booklet supplies the wording and sequence. This independent edition adds the full text of the three named Qur’anic surahs and repeats al-Fātiḥa at each place it is called for. Its English is a new rendering. Where the Arabic and companion English guides differ, the Arabic takes priority. The Persian title Khwājagān is rendered al-Khawājakān in the Arabic text. Romanization generally includes inflectional vowels, which speakers commonly omit at a pause; the dhikr pronounces

as Hū.

Primary Arabic booklet.

Companion guide.
