A reading format divided into sections from the complete text version. Edition details and textual sources are in Document 9. [Source note.]
Reading the three lines
Each passage appears in Arabic, transliteration, and modern English. Short units continue the text in order; a unit boundary need not end a sentence. All seven supplements are complete, including the narration after the first glorification and the source’s recitation directions.
ā ī ū mark long vowels; ʿ marks ʿayn and ʾ marks hamza within a word. Initial hamza is represented by its vowel. ḥ ṣ ḍ ṭ ẓ distinguish Arabic consonants; th dh kh sh gh represent single Arabic sounds. Doubled consonants are held longer.
The transliteration retains grammatical endings and the written article al. In connected recitation, initial helping vowels often disappear and al assimilates before sun letters. At a full pause, final short case vowels are normally dropped. A separating hyphen distinguishes adjacent consonants from a digraph.
God translates Allāh. “Muhammad and his family” renders Muḥammad wa-ālihi and Muḥammad wa-āli Muḥammad. The prayers retain the voice of the person praying. Bracketed English directions identify instructions in the source; the narration following Supplement 1 remains a report attributed to its named transmitters.

Rawā al-zuhriyyu ʿan saʿīdi bni al-musayyabi qāla: kāna al-qawmu lā yakhrujūna min makkata ḥattā yakhruja ʿaliyyu bnu al-ḥusayni sayyidu al-ʿābidīna ʿalayhi al-salāmu.
Al-Zuhrī related from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab, who said: “The people would not leave Mecca until ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn, master of the worshippers, peace be upon him, had left.
Fakharaja wakharajtu maʿahu, fanazala fī baʿḍi al-manāzili faṣallā rakʿatayni, fasabbaḥa fī sujūdihi, yaʿnī bihādhā al-tasbīḥi, falam yabqa shajarun walā madarun illā sabbaḥa maʿahu.
“He set out, and I went with him. At one of the stopping places he halted and prayed two cycles of prayer. In prostration he glorified God—meaning with this glorification—and no tree or clod of earth remained without glorifying God with him.
Fafaziʿnā, farafaʿa raʾsahu faqāla: yā saʿīdu afaziʿta? faqultu: naʿam yā bna rasūli Allāhi. faqāla: hādhā al-tasbīḥu al-aʿẓamu.
“We were frightened. He raised his head and said, ‘Saʿīd, were you frightened?’ I said, ‘Yes, son of God’s Messenger.’ He said, ‘This is the greatest glorification.
Ḥaddathanī abī ʿan jaddī ʿan rasūli Allāhi ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-ālihi: lā tabqā al-dhunūbu maʿa hādhā al-tasbīḥi,
“‘My father related to me from my grandfather, from God’s Messenger, may God bless him and his family: Sins do not remain alongside this glorification,
Wa-anna Allāha jalla jalāluhu lammā khalaqa jabraʾīla alhamahu hādhā al-tasbīḥa, wahuwa ismu Allāhi al-akbaru.
“‘and when God—majestic is His glory—created Gabriel, He inspired him with this glorification. It is God’s greatest name.’”

Praise belongs to God, who has revealed His greatness to hearts, veiled Himself from eyes by His might, and exercised His power over all things.

3 fī dhikri āli muḥammadin ʿalayhimu al-salāmu
3 In remembrance of Muhammad’s family, peace be upon them
Allāhumma yā man khaṣṣa muḥammadan wa-ālahu bi-al-karāmati, waḥabāhum bi-al-risālati, wakhaṣṣaṣahum bi-al-wasīlati, wajaʿalahum warathata al-anbiyāʾi, wakhatama bihimu al-awṣiyāʾa wa-al-aʾimmata,
O God, You who singled out Muhammad and his family for honor, endowed them with the message, reserved for them the means of drawing near to You, made them heirs to the prophets, and brought the succession of trustees and imams to its culmination through them;
Waʿallamahum ʿilma mā kāna waʿilma mā baqiya, wajaʿala afʾidatan mina al-nāsi tahwī ilayhim, faṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa-ālihi al-ṭāhirīna,
You taught them knowledge of what has been and what remains, and caused the hearts of some people to incline toward them: bless Muhammad and his pure family.
Wa-ifʿal binā mā anta ahluhu fī al-dīni wa-al-dunyā wa-al-ākhirati. innaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīrun.
Deal with us as befits You, in our religion, in this world, and in the world to come. You have power over all things.
4 fī al-ṣalāti ʿalā ādama ʿalayhi al-salāmu
4 In blessing Adam, peace be upon him
Allāhumma wa-ādamu badīʿu fiṭratika, wa-awwalu muʿtarifin mina al-ṭīni birubūbiyyatika, wabadwu ḥujjatika ʿalā ʿibādika wabariyyatika,
O God, Adam is the wondrous work of Your creation, the first being formed from clay to acknowledge Your lordship, and the beginning of Your proof to Your servants and Your creatures.
Wa-al-dalīlu ʿalā al-istijārati biʿafwika min ʿuqūbatika, wa-al-nāhiju subula tawbatika, wa-al-muwassalu bayna al-khalqi wabayna maʿrifatika,
He points the way to seeking refuge in Your pardon from Your punishment; he opened the paths of repentance to You and was made a means for creatures to come to know You.
Wa-al-ladhī laqqantahu mā raḍīta bihi ʿanhu bimannika ʿalayhi waraḥmatika, wa-al-munību al-ladhī lam yuṣirra ʿalā maʿṣiyatika,
You taught him what won Your pleasure with him, through Your favor and mercy toward him. He turned back to You and did not persist in disobeying You.
Wasābiqu al-mutadhallilīna biḥalqi raʾsihi fī ḥaramika, wa-al-mutawassilu baʿda al-maʿṣiyati bi-al-ṭāʿati ilā ʿafwika,
He was the first of those who humbled themselves by shaving their heads in Your sanctuary, and after disobedience he sought Your pardon through obedience.
Wa-abū al-anbiyāʾi al-ladhīna ūdhū fī janbika, wa-aktharu sukkāni al-arḍi saʿyan fī ṭāʿatika.
He is the father of the prophets who suffered harm for Your sake, and of all earth’s inhabitants he strove the most in obedience to You.
Faṣalli ʿalayhi anta yā raḥmānu wamalāʾikatuka wasukkānu samāwātika wa-arḍika, kamā ʿaẓẓama ḥurumātika wadallanā ʿalā sabīli marḍātika yā arḥama al-rāḥimīna.
So bless him, O All-Merciful—you, Your angels, and the inhabitants of Your heavens and earth—as he honored what You made sacred and guided us to the path of Your pleasure, O most merciful of the merciful.

5 In distress and in seeking pardon
Ilāhī lā tushmit bī ʿaduwwī, walā tafjaʿ bī ḥamīmī waṣadīqī.
My God, do not let my enemy rejoice over my suffering, and do not bring grief to my loved one and my friend through what happens to me.
Ilāhī hab lī laḥẓatan min laḥaẓātika takshifu ʿannī mā ibtalaytanī bihi, watuʿīdunī ilā aḥsani ʿādātika ʿindī.
My God, grant me one of Your glances of care, to lift from me the trial You have sent me and restore the finest kindness You have always shown me.
Wa-istajib duʿāʾī waduʿāʾa man akhlaṣa laka duʿāʾahu, faqad ḍaʿufat quwwatī waqallat ḥīlatī wa-ishtaddat ḥālī,
Answer my prayer and the prayer of whoever calls on You sincerely. My strength has weakened, my resources have dwindled, and my condition has grown severe.
Wa-ayistu mimmā ʿinda khalqika, falam yabqa lī illā rajāʾuka ʿalayya. ilāhī inna qudrataka ʿalā kashfi mā anā fīhi kaqudratika ʿalā mā ibtalaytanī bihi.
I have lost hope in what Your creatures can offer; all that remains for me is hope in You on my behalf. My God, Your power to remove my suffering is like Your power to bring the trial upon me.
Wa-inna dhikra ʿawāʾidika yuʾnisunī, wa-al-rajāʾu fī inʿāmika wafaḍlika yuqawwīnī, liʾannī lam akhlu min niʿmatika mundhu khalaqtanī.
Remembering Your accustomed kindness comforts me, and hope in Your gifts and favor strengthens me, for I have never been without Your blessing since You created me.
Wa-anta ilāhī mafzaʿī wamaljaʾī, wa-al-ḥāfiẓu lī wa-al-dhābbu ʿannī, al-mutaḥanninu ʿalayya al-raḥīmu biya, al-mutakaffilu birizqī.
You, my God, are the One I turn to and my refuge. You guard and defend me, show me tenderness and mercy, and take responsibility for my provision.
Fī qaḍāʾika kāna mā ḥalla bī, wabiʿilmika mā ṣirtu ilayhi. fa-ijʿal yā waliyyī wasayyidī fīmā qaddarta waqaḍayta ʿalayya waḥatamta ʿāfiyatī,
What has befallen me was within Your decree, and the state I have reached is within Your knowledge. So, my Protector and Master, place my well-being within what You have determined, decreed, and ordained for me,
Wamā fīhi ṣalāḥī wakhalāṣī mimmā anā fīhi. fa-innī lā arjū lidafʿi dhālika ghayraka, walā aʿtamidu fīhi illā ʿalayka.
along with whatever will set me right and deliver me from my present suffering. I hope in no one but You to drive it away, and for this I rely on You alone.
Fakun yā dhā al-jalāli wa-al-ikrāmi ʿinda aḥsani ẓannī bika, wa-irḥam ḍaʿfī waqillata ḥīlatī, wa-ikshif kurbatī wa-istajib daʿwatī,
O Possessor of majesty and generosity, fulfill the best of my expectations of You. Have mercy on my weakness and my lack of means, lift my distress, and answer my call.
Wa-aqilnī ʿathratī, wa-umnun ʿalayya bidhālika waʿalā kulli dāʿin laka. amartanī yā sayyidī bi-al-duʿāʾi, watakaffalta bi-al-ijābati,
Forgive my stumbling, and grant this favor to me and to everyone who calls on You. My Master, You commanded me to pray and undertook to answer.
Wawaʿduka al-ḥaqqu al-ladhī lā khulfa fīhi walā tabdīla. faṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin nabiyyika waʿabdika waʿalā al-ṭāhirīna min ahli baytihi,
Your promise is true; it can neither be broken nor changed. So bless Muhammad, Your prophet and servant, and the pure members of his household.
Wa-aghithnī, fa-innaka ghiyāthu man lā ghiyātha lahu waḥirzu man lā ḥirza lahu. wa-anā al-muḍṭarru al-ladhī awjabta ijābatahu wakashfa mā bihi mina al-sūʾi.
Come to my aid, for You are the aid of those who have no aid, and the shelter of those who have no shelter. I am the distressed one whose prayer You have pledged to answer and whose suffering You have pledged to remove.
Fa-ajibnī wa-ikshif hammī wafarrij ghammī, wa-aʿid ḥālī ilā aḥsani mā kānat ʿalayhi,
So answer me, remove my worry, ease my sorrow, and restore my condition to the best it has ever been.
Walā tujāzinī bi-al-istiḥqāqi walākin biraḥmatika al-latī wasiʿat kulla shayʾin. yā dhā al-jalāli wa-al-ikrāmi ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa-āli muḥammadin, wa-ismaʿ wa-ajib yā ʿazīzu.
Do not repay me according to what I deserve, but according to Your mercy, which embraces all things. O Possessor of majesty and generosity, bless Muhammad and his family. Hear and answer, O Mighty One.
6 mimmā yaḥdharuhu wayakhāfuhu
6 Concerning what he dreads and fears
Ilāhī innahu laysa yaruddu ghaḍabaka illā ḥilmuka, walā yunjī min ʿiqābika illā ʿafwuka, walā yukhalliṣu minka illā raḥmatuka wa-al-taḍarruʿu ilayka.
My God, nothing turns back Your anger but Your forbearance, nothing saves from Your punishment but Your pardon, and nothing delivers from You but Your mercy and humble pleading with You.
Fahab lī yā ilāhī faraḥan bi-al-qudrati al-latī bihā tuḥyī mayta al-bilādi, wabihā tanshuru arwāḥa al-ʿibādi.
So grant me joy, my God, through the power by which You revive the dead earth and raise the spirits of Your servants.
Walā tuhliknī, waʿarrifnī al-ijābata yā rabbi, wa-irfaʿnī walā taḍaʿnī, wa-unṣurnī wa-urzuqnī waʿāfinī mina al-āfāti.
Do not let me perish. Let me know Your answer, my Lord. Raise me up and do not bring me low; help me, provide for me, and keep me safe from afflictions.
Yā rabbi in tarfaʿnī faman yaḍaʿunī, wa-in taḍaʿnī faman yarfaʿunī? waqad ʿalimtu yā ilāhī an laysa fī ḥukmika ẓulmun walā fī naqimatika ʿajalatun.
My Lord, if You raise me, who can bring me low? If You bring me low, who can raise me? I know, my God, that there is no injustice in Your judgment and no haste in Your retribution.
Innamā yaʿjalu man yakhāfu al-fawta, wayaḥtāju ilā al-ẓulmi al-ḍaʿīfu, waqad taʿālayta ʿan dhālika yā sayyidī ʿuluwwan kabīran.
Only someone afraid of missing an opportunity acts in haste, and only the weak need to resort to injustice. You, my Master, are exalted far above that.
Rabbi lā tajʿalnī li-l-balāʾi gharaḍan walā linaqimatika naṣaban, wamahhilnī wanaffisnī, wa-aqilnī ʿathratī walā tutbiʿnī bi-al-balāʾi.
My Lord, do not make me a target for affliction or an object of Your retribution. Give me time and breathing space, forgive my stumbling, and do not pursue me with affliction.
Faqad tarā ḍaʿfī waqillata ḥīlatī, faṣabbirnī, fa-innī yā rabbi ḍaʿīfun mutaḍarriʿun ilayka yā rabbi.
You see my weakness and how few resources I have. Give me patience, for I am weak, my Lord, and I plead humbly with You, my Lord.
Wa-aʿūdhu bika minka fa-aʿidhnī, wa-astajīru bika min kulli balāʾin fa-ajirnī, wa-astatiru bika fa-usturnī yā sayyidī mimmā akhāfu wa-aḥdharu.
I seek refuge in You from You, so give me refuge. I seek Your protection from every affliction, so protect me. I seek shelter in You, so shelter me, my Master, from what I fear and dread.
Wa-anta al-ʿaẓīmu aʿẓamu min kulli ʿaẓīmin, bika bika bika istatartu.
You are the Great One, greater than all that is great. In You, in You, in You I have sought shelter.
Yā Allāhu yā Allāhu yā Allāhu yā Allāhu yā Allāhu yā Allāhu yā Allāhu yā Allāhu yā Allāhu yā Allāhu, ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa-ālihi al-ṭayyibīna al-ṭāhirīna.
O God, O God, O God, O God, O God, O God, O God, O God, O God, O God: bless Muhammad and his good and pure family.

Text notes
Source and completeness
The base text is 07_Sahifa_Supplements.docx. All 23 body paragraphs, including the report after the first glorification, appear in their original order as 69 shorter three-paragraph groups. The seven supplements contain 13, 11, 3, 6, 14, 10 and 12 groups respectively. All twelve invocations beginning “My Master, my Master” are retained, as are the ten calls “O God” in Supplement 6. The source’s “three times” direction in Supplement 2 is reproduced, not expanded into added text.
The layout and transliteration follow 04_Sahifa_Prayers_25-36_Vocalized_Transliteration_English.docx. The English is newly worded from the supplied Arabic. Source attributions are preserved as attributions, without a separate claim about the historical reliability of the report.
Readings and vocalization
Short vowels, grammatical endings, shadda and sukūn have been reviewed. Spacing, punctuation, hamza spelling and long-vowel spelling are regularized. In Supplement 1, the malformed spellings of malaʾ (“assembly”) receive their hamza, and al-samāwāt is written with its full alif. In Supplement 5, yūnisunī is regularized to yuʾnisunī (“comforts me”), and the source’s malformed maljāya is read maljaʾī (“my refuge”).
Supplement 2: istakhlaṣa bi-al-nūri wa-al-ḍiyāʾi is retained. Its construction is compressed; “distinguished by light and radiance” is an interpretive rendering, not a proposed replacement of the Arabic. Al-mustahillūn is understood as those who raise their voices in supplication. “Increase the goodness of those who turn back” retains the wording iḥsān al-munībīn; goodness granted to them is also possible.
Supplement 3: khaṣṣaṣahum is vocalized as a past-tense verb, parallel to the surrounding verbs. Supplement 5: rajāʾuka ʿalayya is retained; “hope in You on my behalf” follows the context, although the expression is unusual. Supplement 6: the supplied faraḥan is retained as “joy,” without conjecturally replacing it with farajan (“relief”). Supplement 7: al-mamlūk receives the nominative ending after anā and the accusative ending as the object of yarḥamu; al-fānī likewise receives its expressed accusative ending where it is an object.
The source’s statements directing the reader to Documents 8 and 9 are retained as source information. No material from those separate documents has been inserted here.
