Ratib Al Haddad

The Ratib of Imam ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAlawī al-Ḥaddād

Opening and Sūrat al-Fātiḥah

Al-Fātiḥah, dedicated to the presence of the Prophet Muhammad,

may Allah bless him and his family and grant him peace.

I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed.

In the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Ever-Merciful.

All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds,

the All-Merciful, the Ever-Merciful,

Master of the Day of Judgment.

You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.

Guide us along the straight path—

the path of those You have blessed,

not those who have incurred Your anger, nor those who have gone astray.

Āyat al-Kursī — Qur’an 2:255

Allah—there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all.

Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him.

To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth.

Who can intercede with Him except by His permission?

He knows all that lies before them and all that lies behind them.

They grasp nothing of His knowledge except what He wills.

His Seat (Kursī) encompasses the heavens and the earth.

Preserving them does not burden Him. He is the Most High, the Magnificent.

The closing passage of al-Baqarah — Qur’an 2:284–285

To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth.

Whether you reveal what is within you or conceal it,

Allah will call you to account for it.

He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills.

Allah has power over all things.

The Messenger believes in what his Lord has sent down to him, as do the believers.

Each believes in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers.

“We make no distinction between any of His messengers.”

They say, “We hear and obey.

Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord; to You is our return.”

The final verse of al-Baqarah — Qur’an 2:286

Allah does not burden any soul beyond its capacity.

It receives the good it has earned and bears the consequences of the wrong it has done.

“Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake.

Our Lord, do not lay a heavy burden upon us,

as You laid upon those before us.

Our Lord, do not burden us with what we have no strength to bear.

Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us.

You are our Protector, so grant us victory over those who disbelieve.”

Amen.

and from those who harm or attack, whether near or far.

May He make their prices affordable and their rainfall abundant,

and grant each of us, and each of you, what we ask for,

in a way that pleases Allah and His Messenger.

May He grant us the spiritual openings of those who know Him,

and bring our lives to a blessed end, pleased with us,

in goodness, gentleness, and well-being.

And al-Fātiḥah, dedicated to the presence of the Prophet Muhammad,

may Allah bless him and his family and grant him peace.

Recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, given in full at the beginning.

The conclusion of the Ratib

After reciting al-Fātiḥah, raise your hand, pray as you wish, then say:

O Allah, we ask You for Your good pleasure and Paradise,

and we seek refuge in You from Your displeasure and the Fire. [3 times]

The Ratib ends here.

Additional supplications after the Ratib

The Ratib ends here; the following is added after it:

O Knower of our hidden secrets, do not lift the veil that conceals our faults.

Grant us well-being, pardon us, and be our support wherever we may be. [3 times]

May Allah reward our master Muhammad on our behalf,

(may Allah bless him and grant him peace) with goodness.

May Allah reward our master Muhammad on our behalf,

(may Allah bless him and grant him peace) as he deserves. [3 times]

May Allah reward our master and Prophet Muhammad on our behalf,

may Allah bless him, his family, and his Companions, and grant them peace,

with the finest reward He has ever given a prophet on behalf of his community.

O Allah, grant it to us; O Allah, grant it to us:

O Allah, grant us a good end to our lives. [3 times]

After al-Wird al-Laṭīf or either of the two Ratibs

Say:

I seek forgiveness from Allah, besides whom there is no god,

the All-Merciful, the Ever-Merciful,

the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all, who never dies,

and I turn to Him in repentance. My Lord, forgive me. [77 times]

I ask Allah to forgive all believing men and women. [27 times]

Reading and translation notes

Every Arabic line is followed immediately by its English translation. A repetition count applies to the complete formula ending at that count, even when the formula spans several paired lines. The short surahs have their own recitation instructions. Each closing Fātiḥah cue refers to the complete opening surah.

The Arabic has been fully vocalized for connected reading, including grammatical endings. Normal pause forms apply when stopping. Long vowels and silent letters follow ordinary Arabic spelling; the Qur’anic passages use readable imlāʾī spelling rather than a facsimile of muṣḥaf orthography. Line divisions and punctuation are reading aids. The source’s occasional shifts between “his ancestors” and “their descendants” have been retained.

This is a fresh English translation of the Arabic, including the Qur’anic passages. “Allah” is retained throughout; al-Raḥmān and al-Raḥīm are rendered “the All-Merciful” and “the Ever-Merciful.” Kursī is translated “Seat,” with the Arabic retained because its interpretation is discussed in Qur’anic commentary. Laṭīf, rendered “Most Gentle,” also conveys subtle awareness and care.

In the closing prayers, quṭb is rendered “spiritual axis,” ghawth as “a source of aid,” asrār as “spiritual mysteries,” and futūḥ as “spiritual openings.” Al-Faqīh al-Muqaddam means “the foremost jurist”; al-Ḥabīb is the honorific “the beloved.” The elliptical “O Allah, grant it to us” is read in light of the following request for a good end to life. These are translation choices, not additions to the Arabic.

Source and scope

The complete Arabic sequence follows Khulāṣat al-Madad al-Nabawī, compiled by Habib Umar bin Muhammad bin Hafiz: printed pp. 110–119 (PDF pp. 106–115). It includes Qur’an 2:284, fifty repetitions of the tahlīl, the five Fātiḥah dedications printed in that edition, and the explicitly marked post-Ratib additions. The later passage mentioning “either of the two Ratibs” is reproduced as printed.

The two supplied PDFs were used for comparison. The expanded Fātiḥah conclusion includes later additions, as explained by Habib Umar in the Muwasala answer linked below; not every concluding dedication is attributed here to Imam al-Haddad. The English wording in this document is an independent translation, not an official translation issued by the source publisher.
